My date venue has been rearranged.  Originally it was meant to be at The Principal, but the magazine wrote back to say it’s now The Press Room due to scheduling issues.  I like the food at The Press Room, but as a date venue it’s not the best – it can get quite loud when it’s busy during dinner time, not the most conducive environment for a conversation.  Then again, the buzz and energy from the place may set him (and me) at ease.  Then again, the wandering eyes of fellow patrons may just add to my nerves.

Yes I know I’m over-thinking this.  Beat it.

GAH!  Next week!  What if no one writes in?  OMG!  Am I going to be the first person to not get someone write in to them?  Maybe they’ll make a separate feature on that – the girl who did not get a date because no one wrote to her.  What if it’s just skinny Chinese boys?  Or old pervy Englishmen?  Eeeeek!!!

I don’t know if it’s just me, or if it’s really just today, but everywhere we looked it was couples everywhere.  Bit annoying, very depressing.

Bleurgh.  I don’t want to talk anymore.

I remember reading an article once about how women can learn from men when it comes to losing weight or something like that.  The article said that women whinge about it, while men actually do something about it.  I don’t know how true this actually is (perhaps there is some truth to it but I don’t think it’s general), but it’s a good idea anyway.  Hence,

And everyone knows, I keep talking about the same stuff, but I’m not actually doing anything to fix it, am I?

Time Out Hong Kong – Date Our Readers

I got the email yesterday saying that I’ve been chosen to be in their upcoming ‘Date Our Readers’ feature – yay!  I’m going for the photoshoot tonight.

Out with the old, in with the new.

*Much as I wish The Writer would ask me out, he still has issues.  ’Nuff said.

“Is it your resolution this year?” she asks me.

“No,” I say. “Mine is just to get a date. I have to be realistic.”

Sarah commented that it can’t be her resolution, because she can’t control it. I disagree though, because to a certain extent we can control what we do in order to get a boyfriend, meet new people, etc. It’s the decisions we make everyday about our lives that we are in control of. Sure there are external factors which may force you down a different path than planned, but we always have options. Staying at home, going out, going to the bookstore, bar or cafe.

“Yea, but we should make those lifestyle changes for ourselves, not for a guy,” Sarah says.

But I’m getting a guy for me, not for the guy.  It’s like wanting to get a cat (kind of).  I make lifestyle changes to accommodate my kittens, and it makes me very happy to have kittens.  Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

And you know what?  Yes we must learn to love ourselves first.  But don’t forget, after that we must learn to love others.  So it’s okay to admit that yes, you are doing something for your man.  Because wouldn’t you want him to do the same for you?*

What do you think?  Have we become so feminist that it is unacceptable to admit that we want to change for someone or something other than us, especially if it is a man?**

* This is of course under the assumption that said man is not an asshole/douchebag.
** Btw, I am still saying that whatever lifestyle changes I am making is for me, and that includes doing stuff differently to meet new people and get myself a date.  I can’t sit around and wait for miracles to fall into my lap.  I have to take back control of my life, which admittedly I have not been doing for the past year that I’ve been here.

So true.

But we don’t dip into our friend zone for dates.  That’s why they’re in the friend zone.

So how does one solve this conundrum?

2) I have been sweeping and cleaning everyday.  It’s still a work in progress considering I still have unpacked boxes lying around, and empty boxes waiting to be picked up.  Plus my kittens wreak havoc and I’m having to clean up after them everyday.

3) Live healthier – check.  I’m less sociable now, therefore less of a social smoker now.

4) I haven’t had dinner out since Christmas.  Yay me!  I love cooking, although it takes time and I’m always fighting with my kittens during the process as they like to jump onto the counter.

5) Go out less – check.  Although having said that, last Thursday Sarah and I decided to go out for a drink, and all the excitement of not being out for almost a week got to us, and we ended up trashed and I went to work the next day (you know, the day I had to be up super early) still drunk and hungover.  But still functioning.  I am a high-functioning drunk, oh lordy.

6) Still no date in prospect.  Sarah, Karl and I are going to an expat networking event this Friday, so hopefully I get to meet new people and make new friends.  I should make that one of my goals for the year too.  Make new friends.

I am planning on a trip to Amsterdam this spring.  Hence also why I’m staying at home more and cooking more, in an effort to save moolah.  The initial plan was to do a pitstop in London either on my way to or on my way back from Amsterdam.  However, the moolah is a big issue, so we’ll see.  I may end up doing a few days in Paris instead.

I’ve lived without a TV for more than a year now, and unless I win one or get one for free, will likely live without it for the next 2 years too.
